Power outage affects more than 5,000 customers

UPDATE: An equipment failure was what knocked out power to thousands of Bellingham residents for a couple of hours Wednesday night.

Power lines also came down on southbound I-5 lanes near Sunset Drive.

A PSE spokesman says they’re still working to pinpoint the cause.

BELLINGHAM, Wash. — A power outage affected more than 5,000 Puget Sound Energy customers in Bellingham Wednesday evening.

The outage after 7 p.m. affected residents and businesses in the Sunnyland, Roosevelt, Barkley and Alabama Hill neighborhoods.

PSE hasn’t announced a cause for the outage.

Whatcom County 911 reports their phones were inundated by callers looking for information.
