FERNDALE, Wash. — Phillips 66 has withdrawn its application for a large-scale renewable diesel fuel project at its Cherry Point refinery.
The company says “permitting delays and uncertainties” have caused it to scuttle the project that would have created fuel from animal and waste fats, grease and locally sourced vegetable and used cooking oils.
Renewable Energy Group was a partner with Phillips and spokesman Scott Hedderich says there was also some concern about push back against refinery expansion.
He says Renewable Energy Group will continue to look for more projects and partners in the state.
Public hearings on the project were scheduled to begin in Bellingham, Ferndale and Anacortes in early February.
