EVERETT, Wash. – The parents of a man convicted of killing his former neighbors and hiding their bodies in the woods near Oso have pleaded guilty to helping their son flee the country after the slayings.

The Daily Herald reports 79-year-old Faye Reed and 83-year-old Clyde Reed initially were each charged with felony rendering criminal assistance for giving John Reed a getaway car and cash.

Both parents pleaded guilty to misdemeanor obstructing law enforcement Thursday in Everett.

John Reed shot Monique Patenaude and Patrick Shunn in April 2016 over a land dispute after the Oso mudslide. John Reed recruited his brother, Tony Reed, to help hide the bodies off a logging road.

After the burial, the brothers visited their parents in Ellensburg, then drove to Mexico.

Detectives say the parents had tried to funnel thousands of dollars to their son days after his couple went missing.
