MUKILTEO, Wash. — Construction of a new Mukilteo ferry terminal is in full swing.

With more than 4 million riders each year, the Snohomish to Island County ferry route is one of the state’s busiest.

WSDOT expects walk-on ridership during the peak afternoon commute to increase 124% by 2040.

The site of the new terminal is about a third of a mile east of the current one.

The existing ferry terminal remains open and ferry service will be unchanged during construction that’s expected to be complete in the fall of 2020.
