The Seattle Mariners have signed right-handed pitcher Sam Carlson out of Burnsville High School in Minnesota. He was the club’s second selection in the 2017 First-Year Player Draft.  The Mariners Director of Amateur Scouting Scott Hunter announced the signing of the 55th overall selection Wednesday.

Carlson was the Gatorade Player of the Year for Minnesota in 2017 and was named to the Minnesota High School Baseball Coaches Association’s All-Section and All-State teams in 2016, leading Burnsville to a 4th-place finish in the state. During his senior season at Burnsville, Carlson had a 0.54 ERA with 7 walks and 51 strikeouts, going 5-0.
