BELLINGHAM, Wash. — An 11-month investigation ended Monday with the arrest of a man who allegedly sold a large amount of heroin and firearms in and around Bellingham.
In August 2019, the Whatcom Gang and Drug Task Force began making undercover drug purchases from 37-year-old Nathan Jerls after receiving reports that he was dealing drugs.
On July 6, the Bellingham Police SWAT team served a search warrant on his apartment in the 2000 block of Fraser Street.
Jerls fled out the back door, armed with two handguns and an AR-15, but complied with police after being confronted by SWAT members who then took him into custody.
He had a stolen handgun, ammunition, and thousands of dollars in cash on him.
In his apartment, detectives found over a half-pound of heroin along with drug scales, ledgers, and other evidence indicating he was selling and manufacturing drugs.
