Man sentenced for fatal DUI crash on I-5 near Ferndale

WHATCOM COUNTY, Wash. – A man has been sentenced to a year and a day in prison for a DUI crash that killed his brother and left a Whatcom County woman injured.

Court documents state that Gary Johnson of Graham was impaired while driving the wrong way in the northbound lanes of I-5 near Ferndale in July 2020.

He collided head-on with the woman’s car.

His brother, David Johnson of Blaine, was a passenger in his car and was killed.

Gary Johnson agreed to plead guilty in an agreement with prosecutors and was formally sentenced on Friday.
