BELLINGHAM, Wash. -The man who drove into a local landscaper while she worked on a property on Eldridge Avenue last month admits he used meth the night before.
Court records state that 31-year-old Mark David Johnson admitted to using the drug while being examined at the hospital after the crash on July 9th.
A State Trooper also said Johnson appeared to be on the downside of stimulant use.
Landscaper Kim Eagle was working in the 2000 block of Eldridge that day when a passenger says Johnson fell asleep at the wheel and crashed into her and her vehicle.
Eagle lost both legs and suffered other injuries in the crash.
The passenger told investigators that he had pleaded with Johnson to pull over as he repeatedly nodded off while they drove around that morning.
Johnson’s mother also told investigators he had been randomly passing out without explanation for about six months before the crash.
An arrest warrant for Johnson was issued on July 23rd and he was arrested on a vehicular assault charge on Tuesday, August 3rd.
