BELLINGHAM, Wash. — A homeless man is suspected of threatening to kill a woman and her dog in Bellingham and then lying to police about his identity.
Officers were dispatched to the 1200 block of Civic Field Way after a woman called in to report that a man had threatened her with a gun.
She told officers that she was walking her dog behind the Sportsplex when a man came out of the woods and threatened to kill the dog with a knife, then went back into the woods and returned with a rifle and pointed it at her.
Officers located a man in the area who matched the description and he identified himself as Eric Ballweber, which police learned is actually his brother’s name and not his.
He was taken into custody and later admitted that he was in fact Darryl Ballweber.
Court records show Ballweber has previous convictions for drug possession, burglary, unlawful firearm possession, theft and attempting to elude police.
