.KINGSVILLE, Texas – Western Washington University senior Maddie Taylor tied for 13th place in the high jump on Friday at the 2019 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championships at Javelina Stadium on the campus of Texas A&M-Kingsville.
Taylor (Seattle, WA/Auburn Mountainview) cleared 1.64m/5-4.5 on her first attempt, but was not able to get over 1.69m/5-6.5 to just miss second-team All-America honors. Taylor entered the meet with the 7th-best mark in the 21-athlete field setting a WWU record at 1.74m/5-8.5 at the Doris Heritage Track Festival earlier this season.
Tiffin freshman Marisa Gwinner was one of four competitors to clear 1.76m/5-9.25, and took top honors with the fewest number of total missed jumps.
WWU will have four javelin throwers compete during the final day of the championships on Saturday. Raquel Pellecer, Amanda Short and Paige Shimkus open the competition at 9:30 am PT/11:30 am CT. Alex Barry will compete in the men’s javelin at 12:25 pm PT/2:25 pm CT.
