Lynden boys win second consecutive state championship

The Lynden High School boys basketball team won their second consecutive class 2A state championship in the SunDome in Yakima Saturday night beating Selah 60-51. Lions senior Clayton Whitman was named the tournament Most Valuable Player for the second year in a row.

The Lynden Christian girls came up short in their state championship game falling to La Salle 56-49. The Lyncs led by eight points at the end of the third quarter before the Lightning came back to get the win.

The Lynden Christian boys took home the fourth place trophy in class 1A beating Bellevue Christian 74-49. Lyncs star Cole Bajema was named first team all-state tournament. LC junior Andrew DeVries made the second team.

The Lynden girls also finished 4th at 2A state beating Black Hills 57-39. Ruby VanderHaak led the Lions in the win with 15 points.
