BELLINGHAM, Wash. — The Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office says a lost hiker was found dead near the Mt. Baker Ski Area Wednesday.

Sheriff Elfo reports that the body of 36-year old Ronald Slama was recovered Wednesday at the bottom of a cliff on Mt. Baker.

The Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue was advised of the missing hiker from Mukilteo July 8th by his mother after he called her saying he didn’t know his exact location but could see the ski lodge.

It wasn’t until July 10th Slama’s body was found below the primary Pan Dome Cliff and it appeared the victim had fallen about 100 feet.

Bellingham Mountain Rescue and a Customs & Border Protection Helicopter assisted in the search.
