BELLINGHAM, Wash. — Rumors have been swirling through the community about an Immigration and Customs Enforcement action last week.

A spokesperson for ICE confirms to KGMI that agents did arrest 16 people on Wednesday, August 29.

She says the arrests were made as part of an ongoing criminal investigation and that no arrests were made at any place of business.

She would not identify any of the people arrested or release any more information at this time.

Whatcom County Sheriff Bill Elfo has also released a statement saying that officers from his department do not assist ICE as a matter of policy, and none were involved in this operation.
