SEATTLE, Wash (AP) – Former Seattle Mayor Mike McGinn says he’s running for the city’s top job again because Seattle’s booming economy risks making it “an enclave for the wealthy.”
“I would urge the city council to pass an income tax this year, so we can get a test case in front of the courts right away. We know an income tax will be challenged. I think we must also ask our biggest companies to help pay for the impacts that their growth has.”
He’ll challenge Ed Murray, who defeated him in 2013.
Earlier this month a man sued Murray, saying he sexually abused him 30 years ago when he was a teen.
Murray forcefully denies the allegations.
