BELLINGHAM, Wash. — A local basketball coach is planning a big event next week to support inclusivity in sports.
Bellingham High School’s assistant basketball coach Erik Seholm is planning a “fill the gym” basketball game against their cross-town-rival Sehome High School with the goal of filling the BHS gym to capacity to give all kids the opportunity to experience what a big-time Varsity game is like.
As a parent of a Special Olympics athlete, Seholm is dedicated to getting more schools involved with Unified Sports to help those less fortunate play the sports they love.
BHS hopes to set a record for the largest number of fans watching a Unified Basketball game in the state.
Complete with band performances, cheerleaders, and a fun half-time show, the free “fill the gym” game is scheduled for February 20th at 6:45 PM.
