SALEM, Ore. — A new Gallup poll has some kind words for farming as a profession.

The Capital Press reports for the first time, farming and agriculture topped Gallup Inc.’s annual Business and Industry Sector Ratings.

Respondents were asked to rank industries on a scale of very positive to very negative.

Farming received a 69% positive rating; with only 11% giving ag negative marks.

Education received 48% positives and 32% negatives, in the middle of the list.

The Federal government received the worst ratings, with 30% of poll takers viewing the feds positively, and 50% negatively.
