BIRCH BAY, Wash. — Whatcom County is recovering after Thursday’s storm knocked power out for thousands of PSE customers, but Birch Bay, which was hit the hardest, has a lot more work to do.

A public information meeting is being held on Thursday, December 27, in which the community can hear a recap of the storm’s impacts and ask questions of Whatcom County government officials.

The meeting which is being held at 7:00 PM at Birch Bay Bible Community Church will feature officials with the Whatcom County Executive’s Office, Whatcom County Public Works, and Whatcom County Planning and Community Development.

John Gargett with the Sheriff’s Office Division of Emergency Management said as of Sunday, the Proclamation of Emergency was still in effect as they worked to help residents and businesses impacted in Birch Bay.

Homes were flooded, roads were broken up, and the Bay Breeze Restaurant was destroyed when waves broke through windows and flooded the building.
