LA PUSH, Wash. — The Coast Guard and La Push police rescued two young men trying to swim across the Quillayute River inlet near James Island Thursday.

Crew members were training nearby and saw two men, one wearing swim shorts and the other wearing jeans and a t-shirt, jump into the fifty-degree water.

The Coast Guard says at least one swimmer appeared to be struggling before one man made it to James Island and the second was pushed onto the jetty rocks.

Neither swimmer was seriously hurt, but the Coast Guard reminds swimmers to know their swimming capabilities and avoid dangerous waters.
