BELLINGHAM, Wash. – The City of Bellingham continues to add to its fleet of electric and hybrid vehicles.

The Public Works Department recently received three new electric vans and the police department has added to its fleet of hybrid police utility vehicles.

The city now has a total of 48 alternative fuel vehicles in its fleet, with a pledge to make new or replacement purchases hybrid or all-electric.

The effort is part of the 2018 update to the city’s Climate Protection Action Plan.

Governor Inslee has announced future zero-emission plans for the state’s public transportation system.

His goal is to have all ferries, buses, and other public fleets to be fully electric by 2040.

The Governor also wants all new cars to be emission free by 2035.

KOMO News reports that his announcement comes as part of a coalition between state and regional governments to take action on cutting emissions.
