BLAINE, Wash. — Four Blaine teachers were laid off due to budget cuts.
Blaine School District superintendent Ron Spanjer told the Northern Light that the district is hoping to offer new positions to the laid off teachers in the next couple of weeks.
The Northern Light reports officials project a $1.1 million budget shortfall for next year, mostly due to a state law that reduced the amount the district can levy.
The district is cutting its budget for staff and teacher salaries in response.
