LAKE WHATCOM, Wash. – A boil water advisory has been issued for residents who get their water directly from Lake Whatcom.

Lake Whatcom Water and Sewer District wrote in a statement that a wastewater system spill is only affecting those who draw their drinking water directly from the lake.

Anyone who gets water through the City of Bellingham or through the lake’s Water and Sewer District is not impacted.

The wastewater began overflowing around 6:30 Monday morning and additional water began spilling over at 10 am.

Impacted residents are being asked to boil their water for at least 1 full minute before consuming.

The District will issue a subsequent notice when the boil water advisory is rescinded, which has typically been 5 to 7 days after a spill.
