BELLINGHAM, WA – A Blaine man has been arrested for shooting a man to death outside his home Wednesday afternoon, October 4th.

Whatcom County Sheriff’s deputies and Blaine police responded after a 911 caller reported that 76-year-old Wayne Mahar had shot his neighbor.

They found the man lying face down in Mahar’s driveway off California Trail Road.

A witness said Mahar had admitted to shooting the man, and detectives learned Mahar had threatened to kill the victim because he was throwing rocks at his house and making too much noise.

During an interview, Mahar referred to the victim with an obscenity and admitted to wanting to kill the man.

The victim’s identity is being withheld until their family is notified.

Deputies say they had probable cause to arrest Mahar for first-degree murder.

He remains at Whatcom County jail without bail.
