BLAINE, WA – The community group hoping for Birch Bay to become its own city is now official.

The Northern Light reports that a group of over 100 people were part of the informal election that established the Birch Bay Incorporation Association at their meeting last Wednesday.

Voters also elected 15 representatives to join the association’s steering committee and approved city boundaries for a feasibility study.

The group is considering applying for grants and asking county officials for funding to pay for the study

The movement began out of frustration from residents who felt the County wasn’t adequately representing them and their growing community.

The association says it wants input from any residents affected by the potential change.

The steering committee is holding its first meeting at 5:30 pm on Wednesday, Dec. 6.
