Bellingham restaurant apologizes for slur written on cop’s receipt

BELLINGHAM, Wash. – A Western Washington University Police officer says a slur against cops was scribbled on the receipt he received with his burger from Boomer’s.

Western spokesman Paul Cocke says two officers ordered food at Boomer’s Drive-In in Bellingham Wednesday night and “ACAB” was scrawled on one officer’s receipt.

The letters are an anti-police acronym being used in some protests that have followed the police killing of George Floyd.

Western Police Chief Darin Rasmussen says the owners of Boomer’s emailed him when they learned of the incident and invited him to call.

They apologized and said they had “taken action.”

Rasmussen says “In support of my officers, this was inappropriate” and he praises the owners for how quickly they responded.

He had previously posted a message condemning the police action that led to George Floyd’s death, acknowledging that racism is a problem and pledging to work to make sure all community members feel safe.
