BELLINGHAM, Wash. — An emergency winter shelter plan is in action as Bellingham homeless shelters fill up.

In partnership with the Lighthouse Mission Ministries and Fountain Community Church, the City of Bellingham is activating an overflow plan to open additional shelter space.

The Lighthouse Mission Ministries reported shelters were approaching capacity Tuesday night, though they confirmed no one was turned away.

Fountain Community Church is opening additional shelter space at their church and the City is making a meeting room available in the downtown library for women needing shelter.
