The Bellingham Bells defeated the Wenatchee Applesox, 4-2, in the second game of the series to jump into second place in the overall WCL North standings

Gabriel Hughes put in a tremendous start, tossing 5.1 innings of 1-hit baseball. He took his no-hitter into the fifth inning, and exited after recording one out in the sixth. He finished his night only allowing four baserunners by walking two and hitting one by an errant pitch. Striking out five, he has now lowered his season ERA in each of his last six of his last seven appearances. Cole Galvagno (0.0 IP, 1 H, 1 BB) and Cole Tucker (2.2 IP, 0 H, 2 BB, 1 K) continued the Bellingham domination into the ninth inning, as the Bells had allowed just two hits to that point. With a four-run lead in the final inning, Jimmy Chatfield (0.2 IP, 3 H, 2 BB, 2 ER) ran into some trouble, but Matthew Henckel (0.1 IP, 0 H, 0 BB, 0 ER) entered the game for the final out and earned his first save of the season.

The Bells did most of the damage in the very first inning, scoring three runs. After Collin Burns led off the game with an out, the next three batters reached base to load the bases. Jordan Vujovich came to the plate and knocked in two runners on an RBI double, and Derek Marshall, Jr. followed that up with an RBI groundout. In the fifth inning, Christian Dicochea scored on an errant pickoff attempt to round out the Bells offense for the night. Bellingham was also assisted by two Applesox errors, while the team committed none of their own. Defense has been a strong area for the Bells this year, as they boast the fourth-highest fielding percentage (.967) in the WCL

With the victory, the Bells (19-18) jumped ahead of Wenatchee (19-19) in the overall WCL North division standings. The Bells (3-7) still sit 5 games back in the second-half standings, and the Applesox (7-4) sit in second place. While the Bells are on the outside looking in in terms of winning the second half, a potential sweep of the Applesox could prevent the rival from Wenatchee from overtaking first place from the Victoria Harbourcats (9-3). If the Harbourcats win the WCL North Division in the second half, after winning it in the first, the WCL North team with the highest overall record would earn the second playoff spot. With sixteen games left to play, including a series against Victoria at home, the Bells are far from out of the playoff race.
