ANACORTES, Wash. (AP) — The Department of Ecology says a small oil spill at an Anacortes refinery is contained and mostly cleaned up.
The Seattle Times reports crews scrambled to contain the spill late Friday at the Shell Puget Sound Refinery.
Ecology says about 20 gallons spilled when a relief valve failed while a barge was transferring about 5 million gallons of crude oil from Alaska to the refinery.
Most of the oil remained on a barge while about 5 gallons reached the water and was contained by booms.
Ecology says says an inspector will look into why the spill occurred.
