Algae blooms at Bloedel Donovan and Lake Padden

BELLINGHAM, Wash. — A toxic algae bloom has seeped into a popular swimming area.

Bellingham Parks and Recreation posts on their Facebook page that blue-green algae blooms have been spotted in Lake Whatcom water at Bloedel Donovan Park and at Lake Padden.

Blue-green algae is a bacteria that produces a toxin that can be fatal to dogs and other animals.

Owners are warned to keep their pets away.
