There were four games involving five Whatcom County teams at the State Basketball Tournament in Yakima Thursday.
The Lynden girls opened with a win over Ellensburg 62-44. Ruby Vanderhaak hit five three-pointers in the win for the Lions. With the win, Lynden moves on to play Burlington in the state semi-finals Friday at 3:45pm on KPUG. Lynden beat Burlington twice in Northwest Conference play in the regular season.
In an all-Whatcom County 1A winners bracket showdown, the Lynden Christian boys beat Meridian 62-53. The Lyncs got 17 points apiece from Zach Sipma and Jaden DeBoer. Jordan Veenstra had 16 in the loss for Meridian. Lynden Christian plays La Salle in the semi-finals Friday at 5:30pm on KGMI. Meridian plays a loser-out game against Cashmere at 10:30 Friday morning on KPUG.
The Lynden boys moved on to the Class 2A semi-finals beating Toppenish 73-55. Jordan Medcalf had a game-high 21 points for Lynden. The Lions move on to play North Kitsap in the semi-finals Friday at 7:15pm on KPUG.
And the Lynden Christian girls also moved on to the 1A semi-finals beating Zillah 62-41. Emily Mellema led the Lyncs with 16 points in the win. LC plays Freeman Friday night in the semis at 9pm on AM790 KGMI.
The Lummi boys beat Riverside Christian 64-45. They next face Yakama Nation Tribal Friday at 530p.
