Friday was a full day of high school basketball state tournament action for Whatcom County teams.
The Meridian boys got eliminated from Class 1A state in Yakima with a 62-56 loss to Cashmere. Jackson Short had 12 points in the loss for the Trojans. Meridian’s season ends with a record of 20-11.
The Lynden boys lost in the 2A semi-finals falling to North Kitsap 62-56. The Lions got outscored 29-9 in the 4th quarter. Jordan Medcalf led Lynden with 17 points in the loss. The Lions will play Lindbergh Saturday at 1pm in the 3rd/5th place trophy game.
The Lynden girls won their semi-final beating conference rival Burlington 53-28. Faith Baar had a double-double with 13 points and 12 rebounds. The Lions will play West Valley of Spokane for the state championship Saturday at 5pm. It’s a rematch of the teams’ regional game won by Lynden 48-36 a week ago.
The Lynden Christian boys will play for the 1A state championship Saturday. They beat La Salle 71-58 in the semis Friday night. Jaden DeBoer had a game-high 28 points in the win for the Lyncs. LC will play King’s Saturday night at 7pm for the title. It’s a rematch of a Feb. 14th district game that King’s won 69-57.
And the Lynden Christian girls will also play for a state championship. They beat Freeman in the semi-finals 45-25. Senior Riley Dykstra led the Lyncs with 13 points. LC will play All-American guard Hailey Van Lith and the Cashmere Bulldogs Saturday night at 9pm for the championship.
