WTA Proposes New Fare Passes

Whatcom County, Wash. -- The Whatcom Transportation Authority is inviting the public to comment this morning on the latest proposed changes to its fare policy.

WTA wants to add two new ways to pay for bus rides.

They are proposing a day pass for $3.00 and a 10 ride ticket for $9.00.

Maureen McCarthy with WTA says no fare increases are being proposed at this time.

WTA is also proposing to eliminate transit tokens and free-ride coupons.

McCarthy says drivers will give out the new day passes in situations where they would have issued free-ride coupons before.

The public hearing is at 8:00 a.m. at the Whatcom County Courthouse.
