Amtrak Employees Trained For Crisis Situations

Bellingham, Wash. -- An Amtrak spokesperson says people are more likely to commit suicide-by-train in places like the Northwest, where tracks often run through populated areas.

Vernae Graham with Amtrak says their conductors are trained to deal with any crises that may occur along the tracks.

When a train collides with a pedestrian or a vehicle, the conductor will get off the train to investigate and report what has occurred.

Amtrak has counselors who will meet with the conductor and engineer involved in a suicide by train in Bellingham on Sunday before they return to work.
