Boeing Says Battery Installation Could Start In Coming Weeks

Seattle, Wash.  (Metro)  -- Boeing officials say re-designed lithium-ion batteries could be ready for initial installation in 787 Dreamliners in the next few weeks.

Boeing says the improvements on the batteries will allow airlines to resume commercial flights of 787s after testing is complete and regulators give their approval.

Those improvements include changes to the battery itself, the battery charging unit, and the battery installation.

Battery fires on two 787 flights prompted the FAA to ground all 787s in January.
