The plane went down in an unpopulated area about 50 miles west of Spokane just before 9:00 Monday morning.
The crew of the Electronic Attack Squadron aircraft was performing a routine training flight.
Lieutenant Aaron Kakiel with the U.S. Navy says a Prowler has not been involved in a crash of this sort since 2008.
The crash victims’ names will not be released until 24 hours after the families have been notified.
In response to the fatal crash, both 2nd District Congressman Rick Larsen and 40th District Senator Kevin Ranker issued statements expressing their condolences to the families of the fallen aircrew.
Larsen says he is lending his full support to NAS Whidbey Island and the local Navy community as the investigation moves forward.
He says the crash is a reminder of the dangerous work the men and women in the armed services perform every day on behalf of the country.
