The Whatcom County Council could vote on the plan after tonight's hearing inside the County Courthouse on Grand Ave.
Proponents of the Reconveyance plan are hoping the land could be used for outdoor recreation.
County Councilman Bill Knutzen says people already have access to the land, and not much would change if the plan is approved.
He says the plan would do nothing to improve water quality in the lake and would create more work for the County Parks Department.
The 8,800 acres of forest land is currently managed by the State Department of Natural Resources and some of the logging revenues go to local taxing districts.
Tonight's meeting start at 6 pm.
