Federal Figures Show Big Job Growth In State

The federal government estimates that Washington gained more than 24,000 jobs in January, but the state’s unemployment rate remained unchanged at 7.5 percent.

If accurate, that would be the greatest number of jobs created in one month in over seventeen years.

While economists with the state Employment Security Department say they’re skeptical of that much job growth, they point out that there has been an increase of more than 5-thousand jobs per month over the past year.
