Dow Jones Record High

Bellingham, Wash. -- The Dow Jones Industrial Average reached its highest level ever Tuesday, closing at 14,254.

Local certified financial planner Dick Donahue says the new record high is significant because it shows that the stock market is recovering from the recession.

However, he says some of the stocks that make up the Dow index are still down more than 70 percent since the previous high, and broader indexes like the NASDAQ have yet to recover beyond previous highs.

The S&P 500 and NASDAQ indexes were both up about one-percent ahead of the closing bell.
