Turning Soft, Ferndale Looks To Fix Water

Ferndale, Wash. -- The Ferndale City Council will hear a new report on possible ways to fix the city's hard water problem.

The council is meeting with the city engineer at 5 pm to discuss exactly how bad the problem is and the cost to soften the city's well water.

Ken Oplinger with the Chamber of Commerce says softening hard water can be an expensive process.

He says Ferndale does not bring in much sales tax revenue, so the city does not have a lot of money to spend on the problem.

The city switched to using well water last year, but initial testing failed to predict how hard the water would become.
