'Barefoot Bandit' Pleads Not Guilty To Skagit Theft Charge

Mount Vernon, Wash.  (Metro)  -- Colton Harris-Moore, also known as the "Barefoot Bandit," pleads not guilty in a Skagit County courtroom to a second-degree burglary charge that was not included in his original plea deal for a multi-state crime spree.

Harris-Moore pleaded guilty in 2011 as part of a deal with prosecutors to resolve charges against him in three Washington counties and was given a seven-year sentence.

However, Skagit County Prosecutor Rich Weyrich refused to participate in the plea deal, saying he wanted Harris-Moore to answer for the 2010 theft of a plane in that county and flying it to Orcas Island.

Harris-Moore's attorney, John Henry Browne says he expects the Skagit County theft charge to be dismissed because his client already pleaded guilty in 2011 to the plane theft, and San Juan County was part of the original plea deal.
