Violence Against Woman Act Gets Local Approval

Bellingham, Wash. -- A local group applauds the reauthorization of the Violence Against Women Act in Congress.

Jenn Mason with Whatcom County Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Services, says the group was getting worried what would happen if the Act did not pass soon.

The bill expired while Congress argued over additions to the measure, although funding for programs continued.

Expanding protections to Native American women, immigrants and LGBT people had been the major sticking points in Congress.
The bill has been sent to the President.
