(Las Vegas, NV) -- The Nevada State Athletic Commission is banning boxer Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. nine months for a failed drug test. The 27-year-old is also being fined 900-thousand-dollars after testing positive for marijuana following his loss to Sergio Martinez last September in Las Vegas. Top Rank Boxing says Chavez's lawyers plan to appeal what they consider an excessive penalty for a non-performance-enhancing drug. Chavez was banned seven months in 2009 for a banned diuretic.
