Healthy Meals Lead To Healthy Reward



Whatcom County, Wash. -- Eight local schools recently won national awards for keeping students healthy by providing quality meals and encouraging physical activity.

Nathan Olson with the Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction says the awards were given by the “Healthier U.S. School Challenge,” a volunteer initiative for schools participating in the National School Lunch Program.


He says the Superintendent strongly believes that kids need to be healthy and not hungry in order to learn.

Elementary schools in the Lynden, Meridian and Nooksack Valley Districts received bronze-level awards in the challenge.

The bronze award comes with a $500 cash prize, which the schools can use to further improve their meals.
