New Legislation Going To The Fair

Olympia, Wash. -- New proposed legislation in Olympia could change the tax status of the Northwest Washington Fair.

The Senate unanimously approved Bill 5078 that would allow nonprofit fairs around the state, like the Lynden fair to be treated like county owned and operated fairs.

The bill is sponsored by 42nd District Republican Senator Doug Ericksen. Ericksen says the proposed bill comes in response to recent revisions in State Department of Revenue Guidelines.

He contends that historically, nonprofit fairs have always been exempt from property taxes.

He also says the Department of Revenue helped him draft the bill that will now make its way to the House of Representatives for consideration.
