Transportation Secretary-designate Supports Gas Tax, Tolls

Vancouver, Wash  (Metro)  -- Incoming Secretary of the Washington State Department of Transportation says she supports a proposal to increase the state's gasoline tax by ten cents a gallon.

Lynn Peterson, who was appointed this week to the post by Governor Jay Inslee, tells KING-TV she also supports road and bridge tolls, saying they're "really a user fee related to the use of the roadway that needs to be rebuilt or maintained."

Peterson says raising the gas tax will also be necessary in order for the state to have adequate funding to maintain its roads and highways.
