Federal Way Parents' Group Wants Armed Guards At Schools

Federal Way, Wash  (Metro)  -- About a dozen parents in Federal Way form a group that's calling for the city's public schools to have armed guards.

The group, known as the Citizens' School Safety Committee, says volunteers would spend their own money for training and would be carrying concealed weapons while wearing normal attire.

A school principal, who's among those who oppose the idea, tells KING 5 that the guards would be more like vigilantes than volunteers and may not have sound enough judgment for such a task.

The proposal is also opposed by the Federal Way Police Department, who has resource officers at each high school.
