Arson Suspect Arrested Near Courthouse

Bellingham, Wash. -- A Ferndale man is in custody after allegedly setting his home on fire and fleeing the scene.

Officials say 60-year-old Kenneth Cassel was arrested at the County Courthouse in Bellingham just after noon Wednesday with a loaded revolver in his waistband.

Deputies say Cassell blocked his driveway and fled from his Ferndale home in the 7100 block of West 40th Drive earlier in the day.

While battling the fire officials found incriminating letters hinting that Cassel may have been seeking retribution for his arrest in an animal cruelty case last year.

Sheriff Bill Elfo says Cassell’s house was scheduled to be auctioned-off tomorrow.
