Local Governments Join Together On Legislative Goals

Whatcom County, Wash. -- For the first time, officials from Whatcom County and the City and Port of Bellingham have joined together to promote shared goals in the State Legislature.

County Executive Jack Louws, Mayor Kelli Linville, and Port Director Rob Fix recently spent a day in Olympia meeting with all members of the 40th and 42nd Legislative District.

They've also hired a firm to represent local issues during this two-year budget writing legislative session.

Louws says the three local governments have a list of priorities that they want done in Olympia, including protecting toxic cleanup funds and paying for a fourth superior court judge for Whatcom County.

He says legislators have made it clear that they appreciate the efforts to bring forward one set of priorities.
