Washington Ferries Get A Welcome Shot Of Federal Funding

Seattle, Wash. (Metro) -- The state ferry system is getting what it calls a desperately-needed shot of federal funding.

It will receive nearly $6.5 million in the new U.S. Surface Transportation Reauthorization Bill.

Senator Patty Murray says the bill doubles the funding authorized for ferry transportation.

"The Kitsap Sun" says Kitsap Transit gets $32,000 in the deal.

Murray chairs the subcommittee that's handling the legislation in the Senate.
