Plane Lands Safely After Pilot Loses Consciousness

Portland, Ore.  (Metro)  -- A Boeing 737 that was bound for Seattle landed safely at Portland International Airport after the pilot lost consciousness.

Alaska Airlines Flight 473 made an emergency landing at PDX around 9 p.m. after taking off from Los Angeles.

A spokesman for the carrier says the captain lost consciousness some time after leaving, forcing the first officer to take the controls.

Alaska Airlines says some of the 116 onboard the aircraft were put on another flight, while another crew was brought in to take the rest of the travelers to SeaTac Airport.
