Driver in Deadly Crash Investigated for Hit and Run, DUI

Maple Falls, Wash. -- A driver from Maple Falls is under investigation for hit and run and DUI after a crash Saturday night that left one bicyclist dead and another injured.

The State Patrol reports 57-year-old Debra Peterson was driving northbound on Oregon Trail Road just after 8 p.m. when she struck the two bicyclists, killing 36-year-old Steven Waterman of Maple Falls.

The other cyclist, 51-year-old Daniel McKay of Maple Falls, was injured and transported to PeaceHealth St. Joseph Medical Center.

Troopers say Peterson was driving under the influence and left the scene after stopping to check on the bicyclists.
